The breakdown experts have today issued a warning over the price of diesel fuel following weeks of soaring costs at forecourts. The RAC says that households are 'really feeling the effects' of the conflict in the Middle East, with the average price of unleaded fuel rising by 14p a litre to 147.19p, but the average diesel price hikes are 'far worse'. Diesel has shot up by a staggering 29p a litre to 171.17p, adding 29p a litre to the charges at the pump for every litre of diesel fuel. "For drivers of diesel vehicles, the situation is far worse, with a litre up 29p to 171.17p, its highest price for more than three years (mid-January 2023). This means a tank now costs £94, £16 more than it did at the start of the conflict. "With the price of petrol likely to go above 150p a litre in the next week and diesel heading to 180p, it's looking like it will be the most expensive Easter on the roads since the early days of the war in Ukraine in 2022." Appearing before the Liaison Committee, made up of chairs of Commons select committees, Sir Keir said he welcomed reports of talks between the US and Iran. But asked how long he expected the conflict to continue, he said: "It's hard to answer that question, if I'm honest about it. "I think all our focus and energy has to be in the swift de-escalation, but we've got to plan on the basis that it could go on for some time, and that's the way in which we'll plan this afternoon."
