Over 13 years after Sir David Suchet's Poirot came to a heartwrenching end, its legacy remains stronger than ever. The popular TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's famed literary detective, the titular Hercule Poirot, ran across a whopping 24 years from 1989 to 2013, producing 13 seasons and 70 episodes in total. As the synopsis explains: 'Across England and beyond, Hercule Poirot and his trusted companion Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) unravel puzzling mysteries using wit, logic and precise deduction.' The long-running ITV show, which cemented the 79-year-old actor's status as a screen legend, brought in a new generation of viewers and welcomed back old fans when the entire box set landed on Netflix earlier this year. Viewers can dig their teeth into several well-known adventures, including Death in the Clouds and Death on the Nile (as you'll soon discover, neither air, nor water, nor land is safe). And fans are remembering just how brilliantly this compelling, Bafta-nominated murder-mystery has stood the test of time. 'I think Poirot might be the best period drama ever made,' Reddit user True_Context 6859 shared. The user added: 'I've been slow binging it and the level of detail is outstanding. From the interior sets, to the street scenes, to the vehicles, to the costumes, it is almost perfection itself(as Hercule might say). 'Of course, the acting is superb, too. Suchet is amazing, but I can't think of a single supporting actor that was not also fantastic.' Their praise was echoed by a slew of fans. 'It's my Sunday afternoon pleasure. I could watch 3 episodes and not be bored. David Suchet is just perfect, and I really struggle watching anyone else in the role,' goddesstrotter agreed. 'I've been watching and rewatching this series for the last 15 years. It is that good. David Suchet is an incredibly talented actor who's made Poirot his own,' gplus3 lauded. 'Me and my mum rewatch the David Suchet Poirot series over and over. We're beyond obsessed and it's become like a soothing watch for us. It's incredibly well made,' ecstatic_couple6435 shared. Suchet is essentially synonymous with TV's greatest classic sleuths and remains many people's favourite interpretation. He's in good company, with Sir Kenneth Branagh taking up the mantle in 2017 for a series of films. Still, with a role so intimately entwined with his identity, Suchet has confirmed he's never watched Branagh take up the bowler hat. 'Haven't watched it since. 'And I don't think I ever will. Until, if God gives me life, many, many years. Until the press don't want to know what I think. And then I'll watch,' he told Metro at the end of last year. As for its unprecedented success, it didn't cross his wildest dreams when he first filmed it in 1988. 'I was asked in 1988 to do 10 short stories, and at the end of the shoot, I got up and made a speech and thanked everyone. I said, "Who knows whether there'll be any more," and I went home that night jobless,' he added. All 13 seasons of Agatha Christie's Poirot are available to stream on Netflix UK and ITVX.
