PHOTOS: Inaugural Burt Ladies Sevens and G4MO tournament hailed huge success

Inishowen's Malin came away with a penalty shoot-out victory over Derry's Sean Dolan's in a very entertaining seniors final, while Armagh's Eire Ogs overcame Slaughtmanus in the 7s Shield final. In all, Saturday's event saw over 220 ladies taking part in the 7s along with former players coming out of retirement to participate in the G4MO blitz and then watch their younger clubmates' involvement in the more serious 'Sevens Seniors' event. A delighted tournament organiser, CLG Beart's Catriona Sweeney, said they achieved their goals in getting women out of their houses and taking part, explaining: "The G4M programme aims to get women out of their comfort zones to learn new skills, get active, and enjoy the social aspect of GAA, and Saturday saw mothers playing alongside their daughters and friends. "The G4M initiative at Beart, like others, focuses on promoting ladies Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment for women, with the teams competing in various blitz games. "We had two competitions running on the day - the 'Gaelic For Mothers' which was supposed to be less competitive and a 'Sevens' tournament. In fact, so successful was Saturday as our inaugural tournament that we hope to run it every year going forward. "As a club here at Burt, we believe ladies football is strong and it's important that females feel valued, appreciated and that sport is not just one or two codes but is four codes. CLG Beart chair Liam Gallagher, endorsed those sentiments, adding: "It was great to witness a sea of colour as ladies from our own club were joined by teams from Derry, Donegal and Armagh. This is what the GAA it all about, full family participation and everyone enjoying the game, across all codes. Well done to Catriona for organising such a wonderful and well-attended tournament."
