Five firefighters were injured, and a man had to be pulled from a Maryland basement early on Monday morning when a fast-moving blaze broke out. Prince George's County Fire and EMS crews were called shortly after 7:45 a.m. on March 23 to the 7400 block of Allison Street in Landover Hills, where they were met by flames already showing through the roof of the residence. Inside, crews made a push to the basement, where they found a man trapped. He was pulled out and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Officials said he has since stabilized. The fire was knocked down, but not before sending five firefighters to the hospital for evaluation after the intense response. Crews also found two dogs inside the home. One did not survive. The other was given oxygen at the scene before being reunited with its family. Photos from the scene show just how quickly it escalated -- flames blowing out the back of the house, thick smoke hanging over the neighborhood, and crews packed into the small yard working lines to get it under control. Investigators are still working to figure out what sparked the fire. Emergency management crews also responded to help residents forced out of their homes.
