Rey Dau is one of the more striking Flying Wyverns in Monster Hunter Stories 3. Its luminous gold frame and twin horn-mounted discharge system make it hard to miss, and the fact that it throws out thunder damage means it's just as threatening as it looks. It's a creature built for sandy, arid territory, and its speed and aggression in the field reflect that. Getting Rey Dau into the party takes a bit more setup than some of the earlier Monsties, but the process is straightforward once the right steps are followed. Knowing how its resistances and part-break mechanics work before walking into the encounter also saves a lot of unnecessary frustration. Here is everything worth knowing. Note: Some parts of this article are subjective and based on the author's views. Rey Dau can be found in Tarkuan: Death's Maw, and before any egg hunting can happen, you must beat him in a boss fight. The game locks egg access behind that fight, so there is no shortcut to skipping the encounter and going straight for the den. Once the boss is down, the habitat opens up for egg collection. The Rey Dau egg has a distinctive look, with a yellow base color and dark brown to black wavy stripe patterns running across the shell. The resulting Monstie is a 6-star rank Flying Wyvern with Thunder as its element and Speed as its attack type. Its transformation attack type is Power. Riding Actions it brings to the party include Jump, Wall Climb, Roar, and Melee Attack, with Wall Climb being a particularly useful one for exploration outside of combat. All of them are Thunder-focused, which keeps its offensive identity consistent throughout the levelling process: Having both the Kinship Skill and Rising Shot available right from level 1 means Rey Dau contributes to Thunder damage from the very start. Boltcall at level 40 adds a useful self-buff into the mix, and Railgun at 50 rounds out the kit as a heavy single-target finisher. Ice is the strongest elemental option against Rey Dau, registering as Very Weak. Water also lands effectively, though not quite at the same level. Fire and Neutral elements produce no effect either way, so they are essentially dead weight in this fight. Thunder is Highly Resistant, which makes sense for a monster that generates its own electrical output. Dragon also sits at Resistant. Neither of those element types should be in the loadout when fighting Rey Dau. Check out: Which Monsties can mutate in Monster Hunter Stories 3 and how does it work? Rey Dau has a fairly defined split between ailments that register and those that do not: Both forms of Rey Dau (Normal and Fulgurite Mantle) share the same ailment resistance profile, so there is no need to adjust the status strategy between transformations. Rey Dau has targetable parts in both of its forms. The three damage types are Slash (Greatsword and Katana), Pierce (Bow), and Blunt (Hammer). Normal form has three parts, and Fulgurite Mantle adds two more: The Fulgurite Mantle transformation is worth watching for precisely because of those two additional parts. Players who want specific drops tied to the Wings or Tail need to be in that window when it opens up. Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Stories 3 sits at solid marks across Attack, Speed, and Defence, each rated at 7. HP comes in slightly lower at 6. That profile lines up with its role as a fast, offensively-tuned Flying Wyvern that prioritizes dishing out Thunder damage over absorbing it.
