Some sailings between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland are being disrupted this week due to a mechanical issue on a BC Ferries vessel. BC Ferries says a problem with a starboard generator on one of its vessels servicing the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen route had led to cancellations and a revised schedule now in effect through March 30. BC Ferries' adjusted schedule has departures continuing through the day but at reduced frequency. Among the cancellations are the regular noon and 4 p.m. sailings departing Swartz Bay, as well as the 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. sailings departing Tsawassen. Customers booked on cancelled sailings are being contacted directly and may be moved to alternate sailings or offered refunds. Travellers are being advised to consider alternate routes if necessary including the Tsawwassen-Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay routes between the Lower Mainland and Nanaimo, but BC Ferries reminds passengers the latter route requires a reservation. The company says it will continue "to investigate the issue and will keep you informed as more information becomes available." Passengers are encouraged to check current sailing conditions before heading to the terminal. The full revised schedule for Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen sailings through March 30 is below:
