ATHENS, Ga. -- A man injured in a single-vehicle crash earlier this month has died, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. The crash happened around 1:03 p.m. on March 7 at the intersection of North Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Police said a 2000 Dodge Caravan was traveling south on North Avenue when it left the roadway, struck a curb and a trestle pillar, then hit an embankment and overturned onto its side. The driver was partially ejected. The driver, identified as 47-year-old David Smith of Monticello, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital by EMS. Investigators said Smith died from his injuries on March 23. This marks the fourth fatal traffic crash in Athens-Clarke County this year.
