Chili's Mocks Upscale Chain's Dress Code, Reveals Its Own Clothing Rule

Ruth's Chris Steak House is receiving some online pushback against its new business casual dress code. The upscale chain recently updated its policy, according to a notice on its website outlining rules for dining room attire. "Kindly remove all hats when entering the restaurant," the policy states. "Guests wearing ball caps are asked to dine in the bar/lounge." The policy also bans gym clothes, pool attire, tank tops, clothing with offensive graphics or language, revealing clothing, and exposed underwear. As users questioned the need for stricter dining rules, Chili's decided to make its dress code clear to everyone. "The only dress code at Chili's is that you have to be dressed," the casual dining chain posted on social media. That response drew plenty of praise and sarcasm. "Mr. Chili's, can I please wear my top hat and opera cloak to your fine establishment?" one commenter asked. "With the pinky finger out as you sip our Margarita of the Month? 🎩" Chili's replied. Ruth's Chris was founded in New Orleans in 1927 and later purchased by Ruth Fertel in 1965. The steakhouse expanded into a global brand before its parent company was acquired by Darden Restaurants, which also owns LongHorn Steakhouse and Olive Garden. There are more than 30 Ruth's Chris locations across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic: Connecticut * Newington District of Columbia * Washington Maryland * Annapolis * Baltimore * Berlin * Gaithersburg * Odenton * Pikesville Massachusetts * Boston * Somerville * Waltham * Worcester New Jersey * Atlantic City * Jersey City * Paramus * Parsippany * Princeton * Short Hills * Weehawken New York * Albany * Garden City * Lake Grove * Melville * Tarrytown Pennsylvania * Newtown Square * Philadelphia * Pittsburgh * Wilkes-Barre Virginia * Arlington * Fairfax * Midlothian * Reston * Vienna * Virginia Beach There are more than 1,600 Chili's locations worldwide, according to parent company Brinker International.
