The Denver Broncos wide receiver room has reach maximum capacity, following the trade for former Miami Dolphin, Jaylen Waddle. The trade was the first big move by the Broncos this offseason that targeted an area in need of improvement. The Broncos were one of two teams that didn't sign any free agents during the March 9-11 free agency window. However, their huge trade before draft caused a little bit of confusion in the locker room. However, this leaves the Broncos' speedy deep threat receiver and special teams ace, Marvin Mims in a uncertain spot. "I think it really surprised me, just bringing in a guy like that," Mims told Lombardi. "But, I mean, if you look at his career ever since high school to college to now, he's just an explosive playmaker. I think offensively, we always need more playmakers. I think it'll be really fun to watch, so we'll just see how it all comes out this season." Mims stands at 5 '11 and Waddle at 5 '10, and the pair both recorded 40-yard dash times under 4.4 seconds. However, offensively, Waddle has accomplished more than Mims. In five seasons, Waddle has recorded over 5,000 yards and 26 touchdowns, opposed to Mims' 1,202 yards and eight touchdowns in three seasons. Mims however, has proved to have a clutch gene. In 2024, he was responsible for two touchdowns in the Broncos' valiant loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime. Lombardi then asked Mims, "Do you ask yourself, 'what does that mean for me?'" "Yeah, a little bit," Mims replied. "It's just interesting to see how I'll fit into the offense. But at the end of the day, for me, the past two years, I mean, the thing I've taken pride in is being able to play running back, be a returner, be a receiver, so any way I can affect the game, I'm happy to go out there and do it." While the 24-year-old is unsure about his role on offense, one thing can be certain that Mims' impact on special teams does not go unnoticed. In his first two seasons, Mims was selected as an All-Pro kick returner by the Associated Press, and has earned two trips to the Pro Bowl. In 2025, Mims recorded his first career punt return touchdown for 48 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders. He later earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Waddle's addition to the Broncos' offense may have altered Mims role for the 2026 season, it's clear that he still plays an important piece in their special teams scheme.
